Room Air conditioning

1. Set yours conditioners thermostat as high as comfortably possible in the summer. The less difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures, the lower your overall cooling bill will be. And don’t set your thermostat at a slighter setting than normal when you turn on your air conditioner. It will not cool your home any faster and could result in excessive cooling and, therefore, unnecessary expense

2 Set the fan speed on high, except on very humid days. When humidity is high, set the fan speed on low for more comfort. The low speed on humid days will cool your home better and will remove more moisture from the air because of slower air movement through the cooling equipment. Consider using an interior fan in conjunction with your window air conditioner to spread the cooled air more effectively through your home without greatly increasing electricity use.

Adjusting the thermostat and fan based on the outside humidity is a great idea also. It is also better to maintain a constant temperature rather than constantly moving the setting cooler or warmer.

I know from experience it is possible to save money and be comfortable at the same time. My best advice is to make sure your system is in good condition through maintenance and repair. That will pay off in the long run.

  77. That first tip you mentioned seems particularly useful to me. I can see why it'd be beneficial to basically keep your air conditioner set to as high of a temperature as you're comfortable with. My bill was a little higher than I would have liked it to be last summer, and I think it's because my husband kept trying to lower the temperature. Hopefully I can convince him not to do that this summer so we can keep the bill a little lower.
