Air conditioning tips

1. try to yours thermostat between 72°F and 78°F. Each degree setting below 78°F will increase your energy consumption by approximately 8%. As you can see, that can add up to a lot of money over a year.

2. Inspect and clean both the indoor and outdoor AC/Heating coils. The indoor coil in your air conditioner acts as a magnet for dust because it is constantly wet during the cooling season. Dirt build-up on the indoor coil is the single most common cause of poor efficiency. The outdoor coil must also be checked periodically for dirt build-up and cleaned if necessary.

3. Check the refrigerant charge. The circulating fluid in your air conditioner is a special refrigerant gas that is put in when the system is installed. If the system is overcharged or undercharged with refrigerant, it will not work properly. You may need a service contractor to check the fluid and adjust it appropriately.

4 Use bath and kitchen fans sparsely when you are running the air conditioning system.

Reduce the cooling load by using cost-effective conservation measures. For example, effectively shade east and west windows. When possible, delay heat-generating activities, such as baking, until the evening on hot days.

  20. The more I try to stay cool in the summer months the more money I end up paying for utilities. My strategy this year is simply to install fans around my home at windows and around the halls and then to spray myself with a spray bottle at key intervals. In accordance with all logic this should work perfectly.

I was working out side all day, and there was nothing better than walking back into a air conditioned apartment after a long hard days work. It really makes all the difference, and provide a very comforting relief to a home.

  32. 8% increase each degree below 78? That's crazy I didn't know it was that steep of an increase. Well maybe I'll have to be more conscientious about where my thermostat is set at. That being said, I'd pay the extra on those days where it is so hot outside you'd do anything for some relief. http://www.unitediowa.com/products.html

  36. I had no idea that turning your thermostat down one degree would increase energy consumption by 8%. That is a really big percentage! Are these numbers based on the thermostat being kept at that temperature year round, or is it based on less time? It would be awesome to see the statistics on that number.

  42. I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with my air conditioning unit for a long time. I haven't checked the refrigerant charge before, though. The air conditioning cools the room down really fast, but then it makes a weird noise and shuts down. That sounds like it might be a symptom of overcharged refrigerant. I have no idea how to adjust the refrigerant charge though. I'll probably have to get an air conditioning service to come in and adjusted. http://www.economyhtginc.com/bryant_faq_heatingandcooling101

  44. This is a great list of tips, thank you for sharing. My air conditioning has not been working properly and I don't know what is wrong with it. I have been looking into it and I think that it might be the refrigerant charge. I don't have the slightest idea of how to check that, so I am going to call an air conditioning repairman to come out and take a look at it. I hope that that is all that is wrong with it because I cannot afford to get a new air conditioning.

  45. I've been trying to figure out how to make my AC use less energy. These are some excellent tips, especially what you said about the temperature range to keep the thermostat set to. It's amazing that you even had the measurement of how much more energy each month it used to have a temperature outside that range. My air conditioner is pretty old too, so I'll bet I could get some really good energy efficiency if I got a new one. http://www.airconperthwa.com.au/

  60. This is what people most commonly think of when they speak of wanting air conditioning. Split central air allows you to place the noisy portion or your cooling unit outside where it will be less noticeable. Split central air requires that your house have ducting to the various rooms in your home (usually the same ducting you use for your central heat). Central Air Conditioners allows you to cool all parts of a house evenly and quietly.
